Time does fly
It’s been a whole heck of a long time since I posted anything here, so I better. We returned last wednesday from a 4 day whirlwind tour of Las Vegas. I might have picked somewhere different for our little jaunt, but we had a free hotel stay and given the meager choices of destination for this particular travel voucher, we figured we could do no better. So we all piled in the car and headed south. We scheduled it in the latter half of October in the supposition that it would be nice to get out of the cold Utah weather and bask in sunnier climes. Note to self: when it is still in the upper 70s and lower 80s in Utah it is still in the lower to mid 90s in Las Vegas. Ouch. It was usually 90 degrees outside before we even left our hotel room. That said, we did have a pretty good time. We saw almost everything you can see in Vegas without paying for it. I would have liked to go see Cirque du Soleil or even the Blue Man Group, but at a minimum of $100 a ticket and no kids under 10 allowed that was kind of out of the picture. Still, we saw sharks and fish and lions and tigers and birds and volcnoes and weird people and enormous hotels and neon and fountains and gardens and so many slot machines I don’t even want to think about how much money gets poured into the desert out there. They must have bottomless pits under the casinos to dump it into. Seriously, it is sad to see so many people spending so much money on the chance to make a bit of cash. Isn’t it kind of obvious just from looking around that the house always wins? Still, I guess if some folks weren’t willing to pay for it all there would be nothing for the rest of us to go down there and see, right? My kids had fun… Jonathan is still talking about the fire and water shows. Marissa got a bit overstimulated. She usually averages about 15 hours of sleep per day and I would guess she got about 8 or 9 on our trip so she had a bit of a hard time. But, all in all, it was fun. Nothing was stolen and we got out of there without breaking our own bank account. Viva Las Vegas.
